Government supported more than 50 scientific meetings in an investment of 250 thousand euros


The Regional Directorate for Science and Technology supported the execution in the Azores, in the last four years, of nearly 50 scientific meetings.
The information was exposed, today in Ponta Delgada, by the regional director for Science and Technology in the opening session of the International Colloquy on Qualitative Systemic Methodology.
According to João Luís Gaspar, the support attributed to those scientific meetings was expressed in a financing of 250 thousand euros, addressed, in almost its totality, to the University of the Azores while promoter entity of most of the events.
He still explained that for the first time in the Region the concession of financial supports for the execution of this type of meetings had as a base the selection of proposals applied for public tenders, situation that not only gives “bigger transparency to the process” as “it guarantees the maintenance of own quality and impact levels”.
The supported meetings included especially meetings of international character and which themes were of the Human, Natural, Agrarian Studies areas, of the Engineering and Technologies areas, of the Health and of the Social Sciences areas.
“Meetings of this nature allow the exchange of experiences, the confrontation of ideas and the improvement of models, in an optics meant for deepening the knowledge”, it noticed João Luís Gaspar.
For the regional director, such events represent, equally, “an opportunity of excellence for the constitution of partnerships, the formulation of new projects and the contest to a more diversified source of financing”.
João Luís Gaspar also used the opportunity to recognize and to thank the commitment of the investigators who constitute the Regional Scientific and Technological System in the execution of the measures that establish the Integrated Plan for Science, Technology and Innovation, main protagonists of the implementation of the policies of the Executive in these matters.
