Regional Government of the Azores supports cooperation with the United States of America on matters regarding climatic changes

On Tuesday, the Secretary for the Presidency assured the support of the Regional Government of the Azores for a cooperative project on climate change between US and European institutions. The Azores, situated in the mid-Atlantic, should be an ideal communicative platform for debating the problematic of climate change.
The Secretary for the Presidency, André Bradford, at the end of a meeting with Massachusetts state representative Michael Rodrigues, which took place in Ponta Delgada, expressed the support of the Regional Government of the Azores.
This meeting took place in the context of the ongoing protocol of cooperation between the Azores and the state of Massachusetts, formalised by Carlos César, President of the Regional Government of the Azores, and the Governor of Massachusetts, Mr. Deval Patrick.
André Bradford made known that “still in the current year, the first meeting between interested scientists and representatives of educational institutions from Europe and the United States will take place.” In addition, he said that from Tuesday’s meeting emerged “a programme of concrete initiatives that embody the willingness of various European research institutions to promote scientific cooperation, including, of course, the University of the Azores. “
The Regional Secretary for the Presidency underlined that this project of cooperation “has aroused great interest on the American side, not only by the State of Massachusetts but also by other partner institutions such as the University of New Jersey and of a federal agency whose research activities address the problematic of climate change.”
He said that “we have, therefore, the necessary conditions to implement this project and, at this very moment; we are making arrangements to pass from words into action.”
