From July 2003 to June 2004, the ichthyofauna of the estuary of Saco da Fazenda was studied in four defined areas in function of the physiographic characteristics and representation of the estuary. A total of 4502 individuals were captured, distributed in 42 species, 35 genus and 21 families. Engraulidae were the most abundant fish, where Cetengraulis edentulus dominated in the captures. The species of occasional occurrence prevailed in the samplings and was represented mainly, for juvenile individuals. The largest abundances occurred during the months of summer and autumn, in contrast with the high biomasses in the spring-autumn; and the area IV differed of the others, for contributing with the largest captures. The richness indexes, diversity and equitability, presented patterns similar of flotation, with high values in spring and summer. The index of Jaccard revealed a larger similarity in the composition of the ichthyofauna among the areas II and IV, while the smallest happened between I and IV.
